How to order

No cart, no checkout. A letter, written together.

Whiskerwool has never had a cart, and we are not getting one. What we have instead is an order desk: you choose, the desk helps you write the letter, and Mara writes back within two or three studio days with payment details and a knitting date. It is slower than a button by exactly one cup of tea, and better than a button in every other way.

Choose

Pick a set, a colour where the pattern allows one, and any small extras. The seasonal drawer opens on its own calendar; the desk knows the dates.

Send the letter

The desk writes it with you and sends it to Mara, or you can copy it out and post it the old way. Both arrive at the same pine table.

Mara replies

Within two or three studio days: payment details (EFT or SnapScan, or a postal order), the timing, and any questions about paws. Nothing is paid until the wool is on the needles.

The box arrives

One or two evenings of knitting, then tissue, the wooden box, and a tracking number. About a week within South Africa, two to three anywhere else.

When the drawer opens

Each drawer is a handful of sets and no more. The desk will happily put your name down before a drawer opens; early letters are knit first.

The order desk

Choose below, and watch the letter write itself alongside. Change your mind as often as you like; the ink is patient.

Small extras, tucked into the same box

No account, no cart, no payment here. Mara replies within two or three studio days.

Asked often, answered honestly

Do hamsters really keep the mittens on?

Some do, with the air of having always owned them. Some carry one about like luggage. One filled hers with sunflower seeds and slept on the lot. All of them are warm, which is the point.

Will they fit my hamster?

One size fits most pet hamsters, from a dwarf to a full Syrian; the cuff stretches gently and then settles. If they truly do not fit, post them back and Mara will reknit the set at no charge. The travelled pair joins the samples pinned inside the kitchen door.

How do I pay?

Nothing at the desk. When Mara replies you can pay by EFT or SnapScan, or send a postal order if you write the old way. Nothing is paid until the wool is on the needles.

Is wool safe for a hamster who chews?

Whiskerwool is plain Karoo wool and plant dye, nothing else: no beads, no buttons, no glue. Mittens are breakfast wear, best enjoyed while you are watching, and they should not move into the nest. A mitten loved into holes can come home for darning.

Can I give Whiskerwool without choosing?

Yes. Ask the desk for The Promise: a voucher for a set, written by hand and posted in its own small envelope with a loop of the current batch's wool, so the recipient can smell the chamomile before choosing.

How long does the whole thing take?

Two or three studio days for the reply, one or two evenings on the needles, and then the post: about a week within South Africa, two to three weeks anywhere else. Seasonal sets are knit in the order the letters arrived.
